Asters are great in the late summer to fall garden. They come in shades of pink, violet and white, and in sizes ranging from compact border plants 12 inches high, to larger subshrubs to 3-4 feet.
They love sun, moderate water and good drainage. The most common variety is the New York Aster, also known as Michaelmas Daisy.
Great alternative to mums, or as a cool color addition to the fall garden.
