Bee Balm, Oswego Tea
Latin name: Monarda
Sun or Shade: Sun, part sun.
Drought Resistant? No.
Perennial? Yes.
Hardiness Zone: Most varieties 3-8

Bee balm is actually an herb, related to mint. It produces unusual whirled flowers on square stems, mainly in red and violet colors. This plant can be invasive, but in my dry area it is not. It grows 36-48 inches high and can spread as much.

The red varieties can be prone to mildew in high humidity areas, but keeping them evenly watered and not letting them dry out can help prevent that. There is a wonderful deep pink mildew resistant variety called "Marshalls Delight", and also a dwarf variety called "Petite Wonder".

I recommend part sun in the afternoon in hot summer ares. Blooms mid summer.
