Blazing star, or Liatris is another wildflower adapted to be a drought resistant part of any garden. Purple or white in color, they are planted as bulbets, and create a grassy plant in which fuzzy spikes of flower stalks emerge mid to late summer. This is a great way to get a vertical accent in the garden. Most varieties grow from 12 to 24 inches.

Easy to grow, needs moderate water but can survive on less once established, and is deer resistant.

Attracts butterflies. Recommended.
