Beard Tongue
Latin name: Penstemon
Sun or Shade: Sun, part sun.
Drought Resistant? Yes.
Perennial? Yes.
Hardiness Zone: Most varieties 5-8

Penstemon is a beautiful wildflower of the mountain states, with many gorgeous and long blooming garden varieties. Flowers are borne on stalks and are attractive to hummingbirds because of their tubular shape. Most colors are in the pink/red/violet family, with a few whites.

They are a great plant for drought resistant landscaping, and grow from 24-48 inches high, and about 18 inches wide.

My favorite variety now, and one I plan to try in my garden this year is "Red Rocks".
