Water gardens, or water features within a garden are a popular do it yourself garden project, and with good reason! Nothing brings the soothing serenity of nature to a garden quite like a water feature, and you can build one yourself. Water gardens range from a small tabletop fountain, to a large pond or waterfall feature, and every stop in between!
I initially resisted water gardens for several years dismissing them as hard to install and difficult to care for. I think the key is to start small! I started by creating a small outdoor fountain, and graduated on to a simple shallow pond with goldfish. This year we will be expanding our pond to include a small waterfall feature. You can choose to use live plants and fish, or to simply enjoy the sound and movement of water. Water gardens add sound to the garden, attract wildlife and soothe the soul.
