Xeriscaping is a method of gardening that originated in Denver, Co. It is a way of gardening with drought tolerant, low water and native plants to save natural resources. Many areas in the west are rationed for water in the garden, but xeriscaping allows them to grow a beautiful landscape using little water and even in poor soil. Xeriscaped gardens also tend to be a natural habitat for wildlife. They are great choices for gardeners in the West who struggle to grow more traditional garden plants, or long for a "cottage" garden look with plants that thrive in the heat and drought.
Water consumption will eventually become an issue everywhere, and using xeriscaping in even a portion of your landscaping can help the water conservation cause. (Also results in a lower water bill!)
